WHAT DOES A CONCERT LOOK LIKE?
Matthew typically plays two kinds of concerts: full band (Matthew Smith & Indelible Grace – bass, drums and lead guitar) and solo (just him and an acoustic guitar). At both kinds of concerts, Matthew plays an evening of hymns from the Indelible Grace albums and his solo records. He also talks in between songs about the hymns he’s playing, and shares about the ministry of Compassion International.
WHAT VENUES DOES MATTHEW PLAY?
Matthew plays in churches, colleges, and anywhere else someone wants to host a concert of these hymns.
HOW MUCH DOES A CONCERT COST?
There are several variables that affect cost, but many people are surprised by how affordable hosting a concert can be. There are also several ways to recoup expenses that can even make a concert cost-neutral to the host. We would be glad to talk through the different options with you.
MY CHURCH HAS NEVER HAD A CONCERT. WHY SHOULD WE CONSIDER HOSTING ONE?
Surprisingly, most churches who’ve hosted Matthew have never hosted any kind of concert before. The reason why they want one is not just to have an “event,” but to share these hymns with their congregation and the community at large, because the hymns reflect what they care about (namely, the Gospel!).
I LOVE THESE HYMNS, BUT MY CHURCH ISN'T FAMILIAR WITH THEM. A CONCERT WOULDN’T WORK, RIGHT?
Most of these concerts are at churches who aren't familiar with these hymns, but happen because someone in leadership at a church loves these hymns and wants to expose others to them. There are several effective ways to invite people unfamiliar with this music to come to a concert that we would be glad to discuss with you based on your particular situation.
DOES MATTHEW ONLY PLAY AT CHURCHES OF certain DENOMINATIONS?
Matthew has played hymns at churches of practically all denominations. Because these hymns come from many different traditions, some concerts are even partnerships between multiple churches of different denominations.
IS MY CHURCH TOO SMALL FOR MATTHEW TO PLAY?
Probably not! Matthew plays churches of all sizes, from ones whose weekly attendance is in the thousands, to churches with fewer than 100 people.
MY CHURCH DOESN’T OWN ITS MEETING SPACE. HOW COULD WE HOST A CONCERT?
Churches who don't own their space still have many options for hosting a concert. Some ideas include renting your normal venue, partnering with another church, or hosting in a church member's home. We would be happy to talk through these and other options with you.
